The United States Naval Academy has been a congressionally designated depository since 1895. Section 98 of the Printing Act of 1895 states, "The libraries of the eight Executive Departments, of the United States Military Academy, and United States Naval Academy, are hereby constituted designated depositories of Government publications, and the superintendent of documents shall supply one copy of said publications, in the same form as supplied to other depositories, to each of said libraries."
Nimitz Library (completed in 1973) is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by public law. (Title 44 United States Code).
