Welcome to the Fantail! In celebrating Nimitz Library’s 50th anniversary during the fall semester, the library held a contest to finally give a name to renovated space on the main floor that overlooks College Creek and the Severn River. A committee reviewed over 30 contest submissions, and a winner was chosen: the Fantail, submitted by MIDN Ethan Borst. In his submission, MIDN Borst explained that the fantail is the aft-most deck of a ship, just like how the renovated space is at the back of Nimitz. It is also similarly open in nature since helicopters use the fantail as a place to land on some ships, and the renovated space has a feeling of openness with the room's height and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking College Creek. Next time you’re in Nimitz, come relax or get some work done in the Fantail! |

Jane Austen exhibit open in the Annapolis RoomLast semester, midshipmen from the Jane Austen’s World class curated an exhibit on Austen and her time period using items from Special Collections & Archives and the USNA Museum. Visitors can view notable editions of Austen’s works, other books that influenced or informed her writing, and a naval officer’s coat from the era. The exhibit is open to visitors on weekdays in the Annapolis Room (Ni325), 1230-1630, through 31 January. |

Don't forget to return library books! The typical checkout period for a library book is 28 days. If you need material longer, you can request to renew the book(s) on your library account. If you forget to return a library book we'll send you an email reminder - and then a speeding ticket if your book is more than 10 days late. If you still haven't gotten the message and your book ends up 44 days late, you'll get a conduct offense. We’re working on making book returns even easier - keep an eye out for a new book return closer to Bancroft later this semester. |
