Nimitz Library News

Spring 2021

Walk-up research help available again at Nimitz

Need help with your research? Have questions about library resources? You can once again get help from a live librarian at the Research Help Desk on the first deck of Nimitz via Google Meet. Look for the NimLLO computer station at the desk and try it out. The Nimitz librarians continue to offer research support in a variety of formats, including chat, email, and one-on-one consultations. You can find our chat and NimLLO hours here.

Recreational resources remain available through Nimitz

Once again, Nimitz Library has a bevy of services to offer as you complete your ROM after reformation this spring. Find a full listing of our current resources here, and remember that we offer book delivery to Bancroft Hall, as well as lobby pickup at Nimitz.

Renovation update and a new Nimitz Library catalog

We’ve been telling you about upcoming changes to Nimitz Library for so long now that you might be wondering if it’s ever going to happen. Good news—construction is definitely past the point of no return! All walls have been torn out, framing for new areas has gone up, and contractors have been working on electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems for a few weeks now. The photo at the top of this newsletter shows the current view of the soon-to-be open space looking toward College Creek from where the drinking fountain/bottle filling station used to be.

Also, Nimitz Library is excited for its new Library Services Platform. This new system is designed from the ground up to better facilitate electronic resources while maintaining ease of use for existing physical resources. This leap forward will allow better creation and maintenance of metadata on the back end, which will improve searching and usability on the front end. More to come later, but go-live will occur on 9 March!

Artists needed for construction wall beautification

Calling all artists in the Brigade! This is your chance to paint the library walls - or at least the temporary one erected during our renovation project.  We’ll provide some paints, and you provide the talent.  Submit your sketch to reserve your space on the wall and see your work on display in the library all semester.  Sketches should be submitted by 8 February and painting must be complete by 28 February.  For more information, visit website.
