Renovation update and a new Nimitz Library catalogWe’ve been telling you about upcoming changes to Nimitz Library for so long now that you might be wondering if it’s ever going to happen. Good news—construction is definitely past the point of no return! All walls have been torn out, framing for new areas has gone up, and contractors have been working on electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems for a few weeks now. The photo at the top of this newsletter shows the current view of the soon-to-be open space looking toward College Creek from where the drinking fountain/bottle filling station used to be.
Also, Nimitz Library is excited for its new Library Services Platform. This new system is designed from the ground up to better facilitate electronic resources while maintaining ease of use for existing physical resources. This leap forward will allow better creation and maintenance of metadata on the back end, which will improve searching and usability on the front end. More to come later, but go-live will occur on 9 March!
