FL301 Introduction to Intercultural Communication

Dr. Fujimura's Introduction to Intercultural Communication course

Welcome!

This guide is for FL301. It helps support the Final Semester Project.

"In your paper and presentation please include:

  1. Brief cultural background/history of your subject
  2. Introduction to informant
  3. Why you chose the culture/informant
  4. Description of language and where it is spoken
  5. How does the language and symbolism reflect or express cultural attitudes, values, beliefs, worldview etc.
  6. Description of the differences your informant discovered on how Americans and her/his people communicate

You will need to supply a bibliography with background readings of at least three chapters, journal articles or the like.  Avoid web-based information unless from a reputable academic journal.

Remember that language, in the broadest sense, is a symbolic system. You may therefor consider how symbolic systems of the culture communicate the cultural ethos. In so doing, you may consider music, visual art, popular culture etc.
